Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

I’m new to therapy- what can I expect in my first session?

Prior to your first session, you will complete intake paperwork that gives me a general idea of your goals for treatment and your past history. Our first session will build off of that so we can plan long term treatment goals together. We will discuss confidentiality and privacy practices, as well as identify other members of your treatment team (school counselors, psychiatrists, etc.) to see how we will coordinate care.
You may feel a little nervous, but therapy is a nonjudgmental, safe space and is your time above all.

How often should we meet and which length of time is better?

If you have had therapy previously, you may have an idea of whether that was too often, or not often enough. Every person prefers a different session length and frequency, but we suggest that new clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions to set therapy as a consistent routine. If you begin therapy and find that sessions feel too long or short, we are happy to discuss that as we go.

Who do you meet with?

At BetterToday, we meet with clients of varying ages and backgrounds. Clients will often find us for our specialties, and we meet with children ages 6+, adolescents, and adults. We provide both individual and family therapy services, and will collaborate with caregivers for more effective treatment while respecting individual privacy.

What modalities do you utilize in therapy?

In therapy we will use various modalities, including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Due to our focus on trauma and influences of social discourse, we utilize the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) framework to conduct trauma informed practices.
